Francesco Viti is Full Professor and Head of the Department of Engineering at the University of Luxembourg, and leads the MobiLab Transport Research Group, an internationally established research group in transport systems, mobility analytics, and planning, management and policy. His work is highly interdisciplinary, bridging transportation engineering, data science, behavioural modelling, optimisation, and data-driven, model-based and simulation-based approaches for transport, mobility and logistic services. He has authored more than 300 papers, including over 150 Scopus-indexed publications, and is internationally recognised for advancing theory, methods, and decision-support tools for sustainable and smart mobility.
Professor Viti has an exceptional track record in competitive funding. Among others, he is the recipient of several national research grants and public–private partnership projects as well as technology transfer activities. At the European level, he participats and coordinates Horizon Europe projects and has collaborations with top international institutions—including TU Delft, Aalto University, Université Gustave Eiffel, and the University of Sydney where he has been visiting professor in 2023 and 2025—as well as major industry stakeholders and national ministries. He provides expert advice to the European Commission and Luxembourg’s public administration, contributing to the development and deployment of data-driven mobility policies. Professor Viti serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Intelligent Transportation Systems, Transportation Research Part C and Data Science for Transportation, and sits on several editorial boards in the transportation domain.
